Ship's Cook Apprenticeship Training Program

International shipping requires well-trained, competent seafarers to man ships. UMTC is committed to recruiting high achievers from our partner schools in the Philippines and training them to high standards to meet the industry's requirements.

Training Program

UMTC offers a structured training program following a framework for controlled accelerated promotion.

Classroom lectures, practical activities, audiovisual presentations, and computer-based simulations are utilized to train program trainees and shape them into highly capable Ship Cooks.

This is only possible through the faculty member's expertise and knowledge of the maritime industry, which is complemented by the required tools and equipment for practical activities. These top-caliber instructors are instrumental in ensuring the trainees under their charge obtain the skills to master the latest technology and industry operations. We provide a holistic approach to our programs, including values formation and qualities that will define every trainee and make them leaders in the maritime industry.

Bridging the Education Gap from School to Work

The program takes graduates from the BHRM or those with relevant industry experience who want a career at sea as a Ship Cook. The course is developed in line with the TESDA-approved NCI Ships Cook Qualification and focuses on the practical aspects of cooking, victualling, food safety, and sanitation.

An essential aspect of the training is the focus on being a sole cook onboard a merchant vessel and being competent to meet the demands of one of the most essential jobs onboard. Our graduates are highly skilled and confident to work onboard anywhere in the world.
