Securing of General and Heavy Lift Cargoes for Officers

The course is designed to develop the competence of marine deck officers in the safe stowage and securing of general and heavy-lift cargoes.

It provides the participants with theoretical knowledge and practical skills, following best industry practices.

Training Outcome/s:

• determine the ship's structural elements for general and heavy-lift cargo carriage
• determine the general principles of cargo stowage with the vessel`s permissible area load
• determine the bedding arrangement with the stowage position of the cargo and materials to use
• determine characteristics and proper handling of the different lashing materials
• identify the required documents for the carriage of general cargo
• decide whether to accept or reject a cargo for transport
• use of lifting gears, devices, and equipment
• apply the proper maintenance of lashing materials and inspection procedures of lashing arrangements during the voyage
• calculate the forces affecting the cargo during the sea voyage and plan appropriate lashing arrangements
• demonstrate the proper securing and lashing arrangement setting for different types of general cargoes
