United Marine Training Center (UMTC) marks another milestone by forging a partnership with K-Line Roro Bulk Shipping (KRBS), which shares its commitment to enhancing maritime safety and operational efficiency.
The collaboration aims to provide comprehensive hatch cover inspection and maintenance training to ensure that crew members are competent in performing proper maintenance, safe operation, and inspection of hatch covers onboard. This training covered the theoretical aspects of hatch cover types and their operational significance onboard.
Importance of Hatch Cover Maintenance
Hatch covers are crucial for preventing cargo damage and ensuring the safety of seafarers. Proper maintenance minimizes risks associated with leaks and structural failures, which can lead to significant financial losses and safety hazards. The training emphasizes:
- Understanding Common Issues: Participants learn about frequent misconceptions and problems that arise from inadequate maintenance.
- Best Practices: The course highlights effective maintenance strategies to prevent malfunctions and ensure operational integrity.
- Regulatory Compliance: The training was designed and developed to align with STWC Code 2010 as amended, under Table A-II/I, II/2, and II/5 Cargo Handling and Stowage, Maintenance, and Repair of Hatch Cover, ensuring participants are skilled and compliant with legal requirements.
- Recommendations based on RightShip Guide to Inspection RISQ Section 9A: Hatch Cover & Lifting Appliances.
Training Proper
In the inaugural training session, KRBS successfully deployed its personnel to participate in the Hatch Cover Inspection and Maintenance Training, explicitly tailored for a recognized manufacturer. After successfully completing the first batch, UMTC recently concluded the second batch of the KRBS crew this October.
This partnership represents a significant investment in the future of maritime safety and operational excellence. Both organizations aim to foster a culture of safety and efficiency within the shipping industry by equipping the crew onboard with specialized knowledge and skills.
UMTC looks forward to continuing this journey with our partners and contributing positively to enhancing maritime safety and professionalism standards.
